I Have Been Given Much (61-70)

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

10 modern inventions I am grateful for.
  • The internet
I feel like Wonder Woman thanks to the internet.  I can be crafty, I can learn how to fix things, I can cook tasty meals, I can talk to far away family members instantly all with a click of a few buttons.  What a wondrous blessing and tool the internet can be.
  • Electricity (is that considered modern?)
Almost everything I depend upon on a daily basis runs on electricity.  It took one power outage this summer for me to realize I can't function without electricity.

  • Washing Machine
Our new washer is scheduled to arrive Friday and I'm giddy with excitement.  It's been 2 months or so since I've had a washer and I miss the convenience and cleanliness it contributed to our home.  It's going to be so nice to be able to do our laundry on demand again.
  • Dishwasher
I've said it before but I'll say it again.  I love my dishwasher! I can get so much done when I don't have to be hand washing and drying dishes.
  • Microwave
It took being without a microwave for a little while to appreciate its value.  Warming up leftovers in a frying pan every night was not that much fun.  What took 30 seconds in the microwave took 5 to 10 minutes on the stove, not to mention the extra dishes involved.
  • Automobiles
While I enjoy walking and biking and other outdoor exercise, I really appreciate having 4 wheels to get me where ever I need to be. I appreciate that automobiles have air conditioning in the summers and the heaters in the winter.
  • Air Conditioning.
Moving to Texas has given me a great appreciation for air conditioners.  Normally I'm fine with an open window or a fan going, I don't really need to be cold as much as I need to feel the movement of air on my skin.  I don't know how anyone survived living here in Houston pre air conditioning days, I really don't it suffocating without AC.
  • Airplanes
Living far away has given me a great appreciation for the convenience of the airplane.  What would take us 25 hours to drive only takes 3 hours on a plane.
  • Tools
While tools themselves are ancient, I really like my modern day tools equipped with plugs for electricity, lasers and batteries.  I can plug in a saw and have it do all the work.  I can use a laser to make a perfectly straight line.  I love my tools.
  • Automatic Garage Openers
First off having a garage is great!  But even better is to have one with a magic little button that opens and closes the door for you.  When we lived in Midvale, we had a garage, but you had to open and close the door by hand and that got old really fast.  I love being able to stay in my air conditioned or heated car, I love not having to bend over and over again to open or shut the thing!
