-Thornton Wilder
10 material possessions I am grateful for.
We waited a long time and worked very hard to finally have our own 4 walls! I love my soaring ceilings and my big windows. I love everything about it, except the dying appliances, the leaky toilet upstairs and the fact that we live so very far away. I have lots of dreams and aspirations for what I'd like to do it someday when money's a little less tight (HA HA) and I don't have a two and a half year old who's bent on destroying everything.
After going without a dishwasher for 15 plus years, I adore having one. I'm amazed at how fast I can clean up my kitchen and focus on other things when I don't have to hand wash and hand dry dishes all day long.
I don't go many places, but I'm grateful to have my own vehicle and independence whenever I need it. For a year or so after I got my drivers license (which I didn't get until I was almost 17)
I didn't own a vehicle and I lived on my own, so I walked everywhere or bummed rides.
Then there was the time not to long ago when we were looking for a new vehicle and the Mr. and I shared just one car. I only have to look back to those times to remember how lucky I am to have a car of my own.
Funny thing is I don't use it to make bread, not usually at least. It is the best dough maker ever. I throw a bunch of ingredients together put them on cycle 8 and an hour and a half later I have perfect dough. Too many times in the past my home has been either to cold or to hot for the dough to rise properly. With the machine I never have to worry and we have fantastic, rolls, bread, or pizza crusts EVERY time. It makes me feel like I'm some sort of awesome baker.
- All our electronic goodies.
Whether it be our laptop, the tablet, my half working Ipod touch or a smartphone lying around. I love having access to all kinds of information. I know life functioned before these gadgets existed, but I can't imagine my life without them. I can listen to music I love, I can pull up any recipe, I can talk to my family and I can find directions when I'm totally lost in Texas!
It's quickly diminishing and I think we have reached a point in our lives where it's essential for us to dip into it more frequently than we can put money back into it. But I'm SO GLAD it is there. I'm glad we've been blessed enough to have been able to have saved for the past 11 years. Most of our married life we've been a single income family and we've always tried to be wise with what we have been given, but I can't help but look back and think how blessed we are that things have stretched so far, and that there has always been enough.
It's a double edged sword I tell you because I hate scrubbing carpets. HATE it. And the fact that even though it's hotter than blazes down here almost all the time nothing ever seems to quite dry out. The dang humidity keeps everything slightly damp. But I have the most inquisitive 2 and a half year old there ever was who just can't help but make monstrous messes and who makes sure I put that carpet scrubber to very good use. It's nice not having to hand scrub the carpet or run to the local rent all place every other day, because as much as I hate it, I put that carpet scrubber to good use.
- My personal arsenol of tools.
Whether it be cooking gadgets, my sewing machine, yard tools, drills or laser levels the Mr. has kept me well supplied over the years and there isn't a tool we have that I don't use often or that I'm not grateful to own.
Our bed is old and the Mr. and I always wake up stiff and sore, but I'm glad I have one. I'm glad that when I'm so exhausted and I can't keep my eyes open (which happens to be how I feel all the time these days) that I an crawl into my bed and fall fast asleep. There's something about our old bed that's comforting even if it is not the most comfortable.
The Texas weather has all but decimated the fabric and it's pretty scary to look at, but I love to sit in my swing and enjoy being outside. I've loved that swing and used it often since the day Derik bought it for me.
