Painting Project Number One

A Desk for Alivia

Some friends of ours gave us this cute little desk and I thought it would be the perfect beginning project to start off my painting spree.  

Half way through painting it I realized that things in my life always turn out much better in my head  then they do in real life.  I battled an old paint brush that shed its little hairs all over in the primer, the plastic/laminate finish on the desk made for very distinct paint lines (when attempting to use a paint brush), so I switched to spray paint for the final pink color only to discover that even though I sanded and sanded the plastic finish there was nothing for the paint to adhere to and I got lovely streaks and runny marks.  And last but certainly not the least, right in the middle of painting the desk we had a day of wild winds and rains and the poor desk got soaked outside. 

What a mess.

But I was determined to finish what I had started.  So It's done and it's full of flaws and the drawers are all warped thanks to the rain and they don't open or close like they used to, but Alivia is tickled that it's pink and I'm just happy that I didn't lose my temper and take a sledge hammer to it mid-project.
