July Wrap-up

I just might sound like a broken record these days.  It seems like the hot and boring quiet days of July dragged on f-o-r-e-v-e-r, and yet I'm somehow staring August in the face.  A small part of me is dreading the August heat and the lack of things to do.  Another part of me is cheering on the march of time, because let's face it a summer here in Houston has proved to more of a prison sentence then anything.  I'm without friends (for the most part) and family, my kids are without friends and family.  It's to hot to be outside (unless we are in the pool of course).  And I really lack in the creativity department as far as entertaining my three kids inside the house day after day, all day long!
The idea of school starting again this month is both exhilarating and depressing for me.
I'll have two in school this year.  Both of my children need the structure, education, entertainment, busy work and friends that school will provide and I most certainly need the break from the immense guilt and depression I feel for being a lousy mother and entertainer.
It will be weird to just have one at home for the bulk of the day, but I look forward to having some one-on-one time with my "I".
All the school supply shopping and new clothes and shoe shopping has got me thinking too, why is it that it never crossed my mind that our financial obligations would double with two in school. From here on out it will be two big school lunch checks every month, that's two kids who come home with notes requesting money and school supplies.  That's two kids who need multiple pairs of shoes and clothes.
And then I start thinking about nagging two hysterical children about homework...and the urge to crawl in to a corner and weep takes over me.
August will be bitter-sweet for me I guess.

As for July and my goals...
  • Work on our bedspread.  I have more than enough free time on my hands.
  • I didn't work on this little project at all.

  • Sew the curtains for the front door.
  • Accomplished!
  • Take my kids on at least 4 adventures.
  • I think we made it out 4 times this month, we went to the Watermelon Fest, to the Stonegate Splash Pad and Pool, we went to a distant park, briefly before we were eaten alive by mosquitoes.  After wards I took the kids on a scenic late night drive. Somehow I got us lost coming home from the park, so I just went with it and drove around for an hour, before deciding I better use the GPS to get us home and last but not least the kids got to spend the day with friends while mom and dad got to go on a movie date.  That's four adventures right?
  • Get back to studying the Book of Mormon.  Get at least half way through Alma.
  • I started out noble as most my attempts go, but fizzled out rather quickly.  I'm mid way through Mosiah.  Not accomplished!
  •  Workout at least 3 times a week.
  • I make myself laugh, how hard can it be to get out and do something physical 3 times a week?  Very hard in my case I guess.  Not accomplished!
  • Drink more water (maybe it will help with these stupid heat headaches I keep getting).
  • Not really sure whether or not I drank more but the headaches are still coming.
  • Read a book.
  • Started the Lord of the Rings book trilogy (which actually isn't a trilogy).  Read lots of informative stuff at the beginning of the book, like the fact that the story is not a trilogy and read up on the story of hobbits and such but I didn't actually get further than page three in the actual book before I got sucked into watching Heroes on Hulu (and that my friends is how I've killed a lot of time).  Not accomplished!
  • Index 1500 names.
  • I always find time to index, it's almost an OCD for me.  I finished indexing 3600 names this month.  Accomplished!
