Dear Santa

All I want for Christmas is an idea.
That's right, just one idea. Every year my husband does the Christmas shopping, and I like it that way. If it were up to me nobody would be getting Christmas because I HATE shopping, and I hate buying gifts just to buy gifts. I'd rather buy something and give something when it is needed and leave the whole Christmas gift frenzy out of the picture.
My husband on the other hand, LOVES the thrill of bargain hunting and surprising the ones he loves. That's why for eight years I've let Mr. Giovannoni take care of all the Christmas shopping (including his own), I figured we were both happier this way.
That was until Mr. Giovannoni dropped the "Are you going to get me something for Christmas this year" question, on me a few nights ago.
Ummm, sure....
So my mind has been in overdrive since and not one single gift idea has come to mind. The clocks ticking and I'm sick about the whole darn thing. Normally I think most any one person could come up with at least one good idea, But Mr. Giovannoni makes things extra difficult.
He isn't into fishing or camping, or anything "outdoor-sy", he doesn't have a whole lot of hobbies other than running and he has everything he needs for that. He spends the bulk of his spare time surfing the internet for bargains, so if there's something he wants he finds it and buys it.

I finally broke down and said, "look if you want something for Christmas, Mr. Giovannoni, make me a list and I'll pick something from it to buy you and then we'll both be happy.
His reply, "What's the point if I have to make you the list".

So what does one girl who really would love to surprise her hubby do???

Every year he surprises me and our kids with wonderful things, I for once would like to surprise him!

So Santa if you're out there I need your help, I have less than one week.
Thanks!

How about planning a fun date night and wrapping that up. I don't know what you guys like to do...but maybe a gift card to his favorite restaurant, a gift card to the movies, some candy, and whatever else...as an example. Good luck - men are HARD to shop for!

I'm with you. This year I tried the whole "we've bought some expensive things lately, so let's not get presents for Christmas." He wasn't in to that. I'm struggling with it too. One thing I did for John for Valentines one year: I got a notebook that had a strap to it. I printed out a label "Love Notes." I'll write it in randomly. I didn't know if he liked it, but one day he commented that it had been a while since I'd written anything :) A night away is always nice...I don't know. I'll be checking your comments to see if anyone has ideas I can use :)

Ben is the same way, if there's something he wants he usually gets it himself leaving me with little options. A couple of years ago I got him a magazine subscription to a psychology magazine (of course he's really into that). I know there is a Runner's magazine, maybe he would be interested in that.
