I used to rip up all my old journals, for the very same reason. I wonder what would have ever possessed me to write down the things I do.
With that being said it's always interesting to go back and review what lofty goals and ideals I had for each and every new year, take 2011's for example.
2011
Read the Book of Mormon and the New Testament one time through. (I made it through the first three books of the New Testament, but that is it!)
Do something for my physical well being one time each day, big or small. (Started out great, had 3 really good months where I dropped almost 25 pounds, then finished off the year by sitting around eating and gaining it all back!)
Say one kind thing, as well as I love you to each of my family members, every day. (I worked really hard on the I love you's, but speaking kind things is something I still need to work on)
Spend one night every month out alone with each of my children. Mom/Daughter Mommy/Son dates. (This sort of had a huge wrench thrown in it when daddy lived away from us for 5 and 1/2 months)
Spend one night a week where Mr. Giovannoni and I can just be alone together. (See above)
Have one night each week where we can just hangout together as a family. (See above)
Eat one serving of food at each meal, and no sneaking seconds. (See answer to #2)
Run one 1/2 marathon. (official or unofficial) (Unaccomplished)
Try one thing I've never done before. (Does living away from your spouse count?)
Do one thing that I'm afraid to do. (I moved far far away from my family and loved ones, I think that counts!)
Fast one time each month (Still working on perfecting this one)
Attempt to make myself look presentable (makeup on, hair styled, out of PJ's) one time every day, preferably before 10:00 am. (This one really made me laugh, my biggest struggle and weakness, There are so many other things to do instead!)
See what I mean about awkward and humbling....
I have big hopes and goals for 2012.
I've been given a clean slate and a new start, so I'm hoping I can make the most it!
May 2012 bring...
The opportunity for me to better myself, I have lots and lots of room for improvement. Physically, spiritually and emotionally!
The opportunity to grow as a family, We've really had to figure out how to do things our own way, now that there is no one around but us.
Visits from family and friends.
